The team

The multidisciplinary team is made up of researchers from two institutions UPC and UAB and three research groups: GRIC (2021 SGR 00341) and Agrotech-UPC from UPC, and SOSTENIPRA (2021 SGR 00734) from the UAB.

  • Dr. Miquel Casals Casanova is a full professor at UPC and GRIC Coordinator. His research focuses in energy efficiency in buildings and construction engineering. He has an extensive research experience, including coordination of national and European projects. He will act as a main coordinator of the WEF4Build proposal and WP1 and WP8 leader.

  • Dr Santiago Gassó Domingo is a full professor and senior GRIC & CER- AGROTECH researcher. He is an expert in air quality modelling, environmental management, LCA and waste management. He was leading the Air Quality Group of the Department of Earth Science at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center from 2007 to 2014. He leads WP2.

  • Dr Marta Gangolells Solanellas is a full professor and member of the GRIC research group with a long-standing expertise in buildings’ energy efficiency related research. She will act as a WP3 leader.

  • Dr Núria Forcada Matheu is a full professor and GRIC researcher. Her main research field is thermal comfort in buildings. She has participated in numerous national and international research projects. She will act as a WP6 leader.

  • Dr Marcel Macarulla Martí is an associate professor at the UPC and member of the GRIC & CER-AGROTECH. He is expert in reduced order models for building maintenance, especially focusing on indoor CO 2 concentration and ventilation rates. With a long experience coordinating reserach activities and projects, he will lead WP7.

  • Dr Kàtia Gaspar Fàbregas is an associate professor at UPC and member of the GRIC. She is a building engineer (BArch), management engineer (MSc) and PhD in Construction Engineering at the Department of Architectural Technology in UPC. Her main research focuses on energy efficiency and thermal comfort of the building stock.

  • Dr Pablo Pujadas Álvarez is an associate professor and research fellow at GRIC. His research interests focus on sustainable development in the built environment and construction engineering. He has over ten years of research experience, including the coordination of national projects.

  • Dr Xavier Roca Ramon is an associate professor and member of the GRIC. He is currently the director of the School of Industrial, Aerospace and Audiovisual Engineering of Terrassa (ESEIAAT-UPC) and he is mainly involved in activities related to research knowledge transfer to private companies within the field of energy efficiency.

  • Dr Blanca Tejedor Herrán is an associate professor at the Department of Project and Construction Engineering of UPC and a member of the GRIC research group. Her research expertise is focused on infrared thermography for building diagnosis, indoor thermal comfort and smart management of building facilities.

  • Dr Francesc Pardo-Bosch is an associate professor at UPC and a GRIC member. His research focuses in sustainability, smart cities and energy efficiency. He has fifteen years of research experience, including national and European projects.

  • Dr Joan Tarragona Roig is currently a lecturer at UPC and researcher at GRIC research group. His research is focused on both energy efficiency and renewable energy sources integration in buildings. He participated in several national and European projects in this research field.

  • Dr Ruben López Carreño holds a PhD in Civil Engineering. He is currently a Lecturer at the Department of Project and Construction Engineering (UPC) and a member of the GRIC research group. He works on digital and numerical solutions applied to construction and indoor air quality.

  • Dr Anna Maria Gras Moreu PhD in Agronomy Engineering and Associate Professor at the Department of Agrifood Engineering and Biotechnology at the UPC. Her research areas are simulation models in biological systems and smart agriculture for environmental sustainability and food security. She is the Executive Director of the Specífic Research Center Agrotech-UPC focused on boosting interdisciplinary research in the food system to contribute to sustainable development. She will lead WP5.

  • Dr Núria Carazo Gómez is an associate professor at the Department of Agrifood Engineering and Biotechnology at the UPC. She has a PhD in Agronomy Engineering. Her research areas are Sustainable Horticultural Production, PeriUrban Agriculture production and Soilless Horticultural Crops.

  • Dr Xavier Gabarrell Durany is a full professor at UAB and director of ICTA- UAB. He is an expert in LCA and urban agriculture and crop production. He is one guarantor of the ICTA ‘María de Maeztu’ Unit of Excellence 2015 (MDM- 2015-0552) and 2020 (CEX2019-000940-M) accredited by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. He leads WP4.

  • Dr Maria Rosa Rovira Val is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business (UAB). Her research areas are life cycle cost (LCC), urban agriculture, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and sustainability management tools.

  • Dr Veronica Arcas-Pilz. holds a PhD in Environmental Science and Technology. She is also a member of the technical committee on Food of CONAMA. She is co/founder of a start-up specialized in installations for urban agriculture called TECTUM GARDEN, where she is currently acting as president.

  • Dr Anna Petit-Boix is a María Zambrano postdoctoral fellow. She holds a PhD in Environmental Science and Technology (UAB). She has extensive experience in circular economy research and she co-leads knowledge transfer and science communication activities at Sostenipra for urban agricultural projects.
